There are two types of graduate scholarship competitions. The first is for the campus wide competition administered by the Faculty of Graduate Studies, commonly referred to as the Graduate Award Competition.The second is for those awards specific to Nursing and referred to as the Program Recommended Competition.

Graduate Award Competition (GAC)

The Graduate Awards Competition (GAC) application is now open. Please note that the closing date for graduate students in the Faculty of Nursing to submit applications is 9 a.m. on Jan. 16, 2017.

The completed application form should be sent via email to

If it is your intention to apply for the GACs, please send an email to to state your intention to apply, and send us the names of the two referees that you have contacted to ask for references. This will ensure that we are better able to track the arrival of the references.

Please note: 

Students do not need to submit transcripts for the GAC Awards. The Graduate Programs Office has transcripts on file from when students were admitted to the program, and those transcripts will be attached to the application by our office staff directly after the closing date. 

(The only exception would be if the student has taken a course through the Western Deans' Agreement while in program. In that case, it is the student’s responsibility to ensure that the Graduate Programs Office has received an Official Transcript from that educational institution.)

The closing date for applications is 12 noon on March 16, 2017. Completed applications must be submitted as an email attachment to using the file name: last name_first name_PRA2017

A copy of the Powerpoint from the townhall presentation held on January 31, 2017 is also available.

  • This application does not require transcripts or letters of reference. However, you are expected to ask your supervisor to review your application.
  • The awards are for students enrolled in full-time studies unless otherwise indicated in the Terms of Reference.
  • Students who plan to complete their program prior to September 2017 are ineligible.
  • The complete Terms of Reference and eligibility requirements of each award can be obtained on the Graduate Awards Database. Please be sure to read the full terms of reference for each award, to assist you with the content of your essay.
