'Tis the season for generous giving

We consider ourselves to be a generous bunch here in the Faculty of Nursing and the fall always seems to bring out the best in us.

It begins with the University of Calgary’s annual United Way campaign which this year set the ambitious campaign goal of $435,000.  In addition to personal pledges, the faculty held its third annual silent auction, this year collecting more than $1,200 for the campaign.

A new initiative for 2015 was the Give ‘n’ Thanks chocolate-gram. UCalgary faculty and staff were encouraged to recognize a co-worker on campus with a $5 star: the Faculty of Nursing contributed over $400 to the United Way.

The year concludes with the annual Christmas door decorating, a tradition spanning over 15 years in the faculty. For $20, doors are outfitted in festive finery by student volunteers; all money goes toward a family in need of a little holiday cheer. Over 25 doors/cubicles were decorated this year and generous staff and faculty contributed over $500 in total toward the purchase of gifts and food.

The best of the season to all!
