UCQ nursing students get expanded hands-on education in mental health

University of Calgary in Qatar (UCQ) nursing students will now be receiving hands-on experience in the field of mental health.

"A new international clinical agreement with Shafallah Center for Persons with Disabilities allows for our students to apply key nursing concepts to clinical practice while improving health in the local community," says Kim Critchley, UCQ dean and CEO.

University students to create clinical projects for centre's students

The Shafallah Center provides comprehensive educational, medical, rehabilitation, social, vocational and recreational services for individuals with intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorders and their families.

Its new facility in Doha is state-of-the-art, and its management is keen to offer UCQ students exclusive educational opportunities that will see them create developmental and clinical projects for the center's students.

"Our partnership with the University of Calgary in Qatar will bolster our legacy of compassionate work in the community," says Mr. Mohammed Al-Sada, managing director of the Shafallah Center.

"Continuous improvement is at the core of the Center's mission to provide the best care, services, and educational resources. By utilizing the expertise of UCQ's nursing students, we will be able to further improve young people's lives."
