Onboarding: Nursing Instructors (NI)

Welcome to the Faculty of Nursing!
Here's a checklist of requirements for our new nursing instructors to complete prior to classes starting

Step 1 | Return Contract

Return signed contract along with completed and signed onboarding forms which were sent in your initial onboarding email.


Step 2 | University HR Onboarding

Visit the University HR Seven Onboarding Essentials and complete all steps.


Professional Education Program (PEP) Micro-Credentials

PEP is an evidence-informed educational program in the Faculty of Nursing to support teaching development for faculty, graduate students, post-doctoral scholars, and academic staff.

This micro-credential program is a digital form of certification indicating demonstrated competency/mastery in a specific skill or set of skills.

Participants earn digital badges and meta-badges by achieving the badge criteria outlined.

FIRST MONTH - Onboarding Requirements


1. Degree Verification - Proof of Degree Completion

A digital copy of all degree(s) - BN, MN, etc. 

2. CRNA Registration - Proof of CRNA Registration Number

A digital copy of your CRNA registration (Renewed Annually).

3. CPR Certification - Proof of Current CPR Certification

A digital copy of current CPR intended for Health Care Providers.  Online courses are not accepted.  CPR is only recognized as valid for one (1) year in the Faculty of Nursing regardless of the expiration date noted on the card.

4. N95 Fit Testing - Proof of current fit test

A digital copy of your N95 Fit Test. Click HERE to complete the Faculty of Nursing, Respirator Fit Test Questionnaire (RFIT) - to be renewed every 2 years.

5. Police Information Check

Proof of a current (within the last 3 months prior to the start of employment) Police Information Check also referred to as a Criminal Record Check.  The police information check must include the Vulnerable Sector Check and must be either the original document or be sent through the Calgary Police Service's online system.

If you have lived in Calgary for more than 12 months, complete the online process HERE. Please note that you must specify the agency name as University of Calgary, Faculty of Nursing, Employee so that we receive notification when your check is complete. 

If you have lived in your jurisdiction for less than 12 months, a Statutory Declaration Form will need to be signed.  

If your Police Information Check will not be ready prior to the start of classes, you will need to complete a Statutory Declaration document.

6. AHS Module (N489, N499, N589 courses only)

The items below are required to set-up instructor AHS IT and card access. Instructors must have AHS access set up specifically for their instructor role even if already an AHS employee.  The modules below are available through Desire2Learn in the e-Learning shell and can be found by clicking this link AHS Modules Directions 2023-24

1. Complete the AHS Information Privacy and IT Security Awareness module and submit the completed Confidentiality and User Agreement at the end of the module. 

2. Complete the Advance Care Planning module and submit the completion certificate. 

NOTE: If you work for AHS and completed the Advance Care Planning module previously, you may be able to print proof of completion through AHS.

3. Please send your completed Confidentiality and User Agreement and Advance Care Planning certificate to Rachelle Dahlke, Clinical Placement Specialist

4. Review the Connect Care FAQs for instructors to learn about the Connect Care requirements when teaching. The FAQs are available through Desire2Learn in the e-Learning shell. 

5. Complete the AHS Network Questionnaire: Click link

7. Glucose Meter Training (N489, N499, N589 courses only)

Proof of completion of Glucose Meter Training is required annually if teaching N489, N499 or N589.  If you completed your Glucose Meter Training off campus, please submit a digital copy of your certification card.  If you require training, it can be completed on campus by following the instructions below.

8. Immunization Worksheet

Complete the Immunization Worksheet and submit along with copies of all immunization documents to Staff Wellness
