Biography
Justin is an assistant professor at the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Calgary, where he also works as a simulationist in the Clinical Simulation Learning Centre. He has over 10 years of experience in healthcare and other diverse settings, both locally and globally, including China, Haiti, France and the Middle East. Justin is also co-host and co-creator of UCalgary Mindfulness, a podcast that provides mental health and wellness resources and access to a wide listenership.
In addition to his academic work, Justin is also active in the spheres of governance and leadership, having served in various roles such as Chair of the Nursing Graduate Students’ Association (NGSA) at the University of Calgary, department representative for the Faculty Association, member of the Graduate Student’s Association Judicial Review Board, and a three year term with Red Cross Disaster Response Team. Justin has also been a member of several local community associations and has expertise in clinical ethics, having served two years on the South Health Campus ethics committee in Calgary.
In 2019, Justin was elected to the council of the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta and has been instrumental in facilitating significant governance reform within the organization. Serving as Chair of the Nominating Committee from 2020 to 2022, Justin participated in the transition from election-based to competency-based board and committee selection processes. As the current council chair, he is focused on educational development of council members, good governance practices, and enhanced leadership training.
