Laurie is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in the Pediatric Intensive Unit at the Alberta Children’s Hospital. She works to full scope assessing, diagnosing and treating critically ill children, as well as mentoring nurses and residents in the PICU. Laurie successfully implemented the Alberta Children’s Hospital PICU Outreach/Rapid Response team, the Alberta Children’s Hospital Donation after Cardiac Death program, as well as the PICU Pain, Agitation and Delirium Prevention Program, which she continues to lead. She has also been instrumental in the development and implementation of many other programs including: EFFECT transitions, ChildKind Certification, Pediatric Critical Care Transport, Organ and Tissue Donation oversight, and General Nursing Orientation.
Laurie has 18 years of experience as a Pediatric critical care practitioner in Canada, USA, Bermuda, and the United Kingdom, 10 of which have been in the Nurse Practitioner role. She has a strong collaborative clinical practice as well as an active role in quality improvement, education, program development and clinical research.
Laurie has presented locally, nationally and internationally on her quality improvement programs and is active locally, nationally, and internationally in clinical research.
