Bio

RN, PhD

Dr. Tamlyn is known for her leadership and academic accomplishments. Her long-standing commitment to the nursing profession is illustrated in not only academia, but also as a former board member with the Registered Nurses' Association of Nova Scotia.

Currently, Dr. Tamlyn is Principal of Tamlyn & Associates and Professor Emeritus and past Dean, Faculty of Nursing, University of Calgary. During her time as Dean, the Faculty implemented a new PhD program, a Nurse Practitioner program and an accelerated degree program, and opened the Southern Alberta Nursing & Health Research Resource Unit. Prior to this position, she served as a faculty member and Director at the School of Nursing, Dalhousie University, which included cross appointments to School of Health Services Administration and QEII Health Sciences Centre.

Dr. Tamlyn's accomplishments span across Canada and the world. Nationally, she has held leadership offices in several organizations - included among them are President of Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN) and the Chair of the Alberta Nurses Administrators. In addition, Dr. Tamlyn has participated in international projects involving nursing education development in Thailand, Japan, Europe, the UK and Africa. Her commitment to nursing practice is evident in the relevancy of her research and publication in the area of nursing practice, education, nursing care plans, addictions and leadership. Dr. Tamlyn strongly believes in the importance of maintaining balance in our lives. She enjoys spending time with her family, which includes three children in a variety of outdoor pursuits.
