Carina’s primary teaching interest is in community health nursing, particularly in promoting the health of vulnerable populations. Prior to joining the University of Calgary in 2012, Carina was a community health nurse in sexual health and harm reduction, working with a diverse, at-risk population. Her graduate studies in public health provided further training in the utilization of health data in the development and evaluation of health promotion programs and critical appraisal of health research. She was a graduate intern with the Public Health Agency of Canada in Ottawa in 2010, working on the use of administrative data for surveillance. Carina’s research interests include systematic reviews and evidence synthesis, as well as a burgeoning interest in hermeneutics as a methodology. Carina was seconded to the University of Calgary in Qatar (UCQ) from Aug. 2013 to Dec. 2015.
