Creating a Data Management Plan (DMP)

In a nutshell, a DMP is a document that describes each of the following items for a research project:

  • metadata creation
  • data storage
  • data backup
  • data preservation or destruction
  • data sharing and/or reuse
  • management responsibilities (who will do what)

While a DMP is useful tool for any study, research funders will soon be requiring a DMP as part of every grant proposal. Fortunately, there are a number of very good free resources to help you create your DMP.
