Marguerite Schumacher Memorial Alumni Lecture

This annual lecture is held in memory of Marguerite Schumacher, our first dean of UCalgary Nursing. It typically is hosted in the fall semester and includes a student-only talk and an evening lecture.

Pinning Ceremony

In 2018, we held our first-ever pinning ceremony. The event occurs on the same day as convocation and the ceremony formalizes our students' transition to professional nurse.

Breakfast Lecture Series

Come for breakfast and stay for the big ideas. Our Food for Thought: Breakfast Lecture Series is made up of four annual lectures, meant to inform the community about innovations in nursing research and knowledge around a variety of topics.

Lectures are open to the public and everyone is welcome to come for the free breakfast and talk, followed by a Q&A.

50 Years of Nursing

In July of 1969, the School of Nursing joined the University of Calgary and began preparations to accept its first intake of students in September 1970. In the ensuing 50 years, the school became a faculty, broadened its scope from undergraduate to include graduate students and built a research capacity that rivals the other top Canadian nursing schools.
