The call is out for volunteers as the University of Calgary community once again gathers to celebrate the hard work and achievements of its graduating students at the upcoming spring convocation. Convocation is a defining moment filled with pride, reflection and unforgettable memories for students, their families and friends, and the university as a whole.

A ceremony that marks endings — and new beginnings!

This spring’s ceremonies will be especially meaningful, as Jon Cornish takes the stage as UCalgary's Chancellor for the final time as his tenure comes to an close. Known for their engaging presence, Cornish's participation over the years has been part of the tradition that brings the university community together to recognize student achievement and celebrate the shared values of UCalgary.

More than 7,000 students will graduate this spring (UCalgary's largest graduating class yet), with nearly 5,000 students crossing the stage to receive their degree. While convocation marks the close of an academic chapter, it celebrates the beginning of what comes next for these graduates.

Become a convocation ambassador

Creating a meaningful convocation experience takes a community effort. Each year, the multi-day event relies on the whole university community including students, staff, faculty and alumni to support graduates and their guests by filling a variety of roles during the ceremonies.

Spring convocation takes place June 3 to 10 in the Jack Simpson Gymnasium, with most days featuring morning and afternoon ceremonies. Whether one wants to support a specific faculty, cheer on a particular graduate, or help out throughout the week, there are many ways to get involved.

Ambassador roles include ushers, pinners, degree framers and more. Flexible shifts are available and refreshments are provided.

• Staff are asked to confirm their manager’s support before signing up.

• Students, staff and faculty can register through the convocation support Better Impact portal.

• Alumni can sign up via the UCalgary Alumni Better Impact portal.

Your support helps turn an important milestone into a lasting memory for our graduates and their families.
