Differentiating Scholarly Teaching and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning

Time: 3 - 5 Hours | Format: Online | Pace: Learner Led

Valuing the role and scope of nurse educators’ practice, in addition to acknowledging the developmental nature associated with fulfilling the mandate of nurses working in academia calls for us to be intentional in supporting ongoing teaching development. Teaching development and understanding how students learn the discipline of nursing requires nurse educators to engage in scholarly teaching. Some nurse educators may extend their scholarly teaching activities into a more formal, peer-reviewed form of scholarship that when shared publicly, contributes to the broader knowledgebase of teaching and learning in higher education, or educational research known as the scholarship of teaching and learning or SoTL.

This micro-credential is designed to introduce you to the concepts of scholarship, scholarly teaching and the scholarship of teaching and learning. Each participant has the opportunity to identify at least three ways that they could reflect scholarly teaching in their practice as nurse educators.
