Developing your Teaching Philosophy

Level 3 | Thriving in Academia | PEP Micro-credentials

Developing your teaching philosophy

Time: 5 - 10 Hours | Format: Online | Pace: Learner Led

Developing a teaching philosophy is about coming to know yourself as a teacher and involves a process of self-discovery (Palmer, 1998; Weimer, 2010). As Campos (2012) suggests, a teaching philosophy statement “clearly and logically communicates what your fundamental values and beliefs are about teaching and learning, why you hold these values and beliefs, and how you translate these values and beliefs into your everyday teaching and learning experiences” (p. 6).

This micro-credential is designed to provide you with the opportunity to explore your values and beliefs about teaching and learning, articulate an initial draft of your teaching philosophy statement, and engage with colleagues to elicit, give, and receive feedback on your teaching philosophy.
