Faculty of Nursing Indigenous Events
Whether you are just starting out or looking to dive deeper, we would love for you to pull up a chair and come be a part of the circle. Led by Indigenous Elders, these events are spaces to learn something new and grow together as we share ancestral wisdom and perspectives that help us all see the world a bit differently.
Elders on Campus with Evelyn Good Striker
Please come to enjoy a cup of tea, bring a question, or share a story and a laugh with Evelyn as we invite students, staff and faculty to stop by during any of the dates and times listed for her Elders on Campus visits on our events page and around the faculty.
Truth and Reconciliation Circles with Elder Grandmother Doreen Spence
The vision for these circles is to welcome staff, faculty, students, leadership, and alumni from the Faculty of Nursing to come together in circle, guided by Grandmother Doreen, to build a community to co-imagine, co-create, and collaborate to enact personal and collective responses to the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, to forward positive change in our faculty.
Beading Nights
Beading Nights offer an opportunity to gather and learn a new beading technique guided by one of many talented local Indigenous artists. Participants can choose from a variety of projects, including earrings, lanyards, pins, and keychains, with instruction available for all skill levels.
Each gathering begins with a light meal and introductions, creating a welcoming and relaxed space before participants thread their needles and bring their designs to life. Whether you are new to beading or have years of experience, Beading Nights provide a supportive environment to learn, share knowledge, and practice together.
These evenings are a meaningful way to connect with students, faculty, staff, and alumni from the Faculty of Nursing, while celebrating Indigenous artistry, creativity, and community. Laughter, conversation, and connection are always part of the experience around the beading tables.
