Riley Brandt, University of Calgary
“I am so grateful that the university offers such incredible resources and people to support career growth and development. The workshops that I’ve taken have shaped me as a manager and have helped me define my professional goals and objective.” – Jaime Kaufman, manager, W21C Strategic Programs
Every day, thousands of people get up, eat breakfast and head to the University of Calgary for another day of work. From the Campus Mental Health Strategy, to new training and development workshops and the launch of the WellBeing and WorkLife portfolio, the university has a clear commitment to personal and professional development programs that help attract top talent to our university. These services are regularly evaluated to reflect the changing needs of our campus community, and the university has received strong recognition for our progressive and forward-thinking employee programs.
For these reasons, the University of Calgary was selected as one of Alberta’s Top Employers for 2017 for the third year in a row. This award program acknowledges the province's top 70 employers across a number of diverse sectors for their leadership in providing exceptional places to work.
“It is an honour to be named as a top employer alongside such innovative other leaders in our province,” says President Elizabeth Cannon. “The University of Calgary is fuelled by our people, so we strive each day to foster a supportive work environment that brings out the best in our faculty and staff.”
The university was assessed according to eight criteria: physical workplace; work and social atmosphere; health, family and financial benefits; vacation and time off; employee communications; performance management; training and skills development; and community involvement.
Alberta’s Top Employers highlighted the university’s flexible health benefits plan, leadership in sustainability, and support for new parents as top reasons to work at this institution.
Managed by the editors of Canada's Top 100 Employers, Alberta’s Top Employers evaluates and compares hundreds of submissions from organizations in the same field or industry to identify those with the most progressive and forward-thinking programs and environments.
The university recognizes the importance of providing career development opportunities and programs for all faculty and staff. Visit careers.ucalgary.ca for more information on what we have to offer at the university and to browse opportunities available for both internal and external candidates.
