Family-Centred Care Community of Practice

For pediatric clinicians, leaders, researchers, and parents who believe families are essential members of the care team. This community of practice is committed to bringing family‑centred care to the forefront of everyday practice with hospitalized children and their families.

About this Community of Practice

This community of practice supports shared learning, collaborative problem-solving, and the application of practical tools to improve care for hospitalized children. It emphasizes that families are essential partners in their child’s healing.

Who we are

A multidisciplinary group of pediatric health professionals, family partners, and researchers who share a common interest in family-centred care.

Why we exist

  • To share best practices and create new knowledge to advance family-centred care for hospitalized children and their families.
  • To connect people who are implementing or exploring the implementation of family-centred care practices.
  • To share successes, challenges, and lessons learned rather than reinvent in isolation.

How we achieve our goals

  • Build awareness of the benefits of family-centred care
  • Showcase success stories and evidence supporting family-centred care
  • Create a supportive network for members to share experiences, challenges, and solutions for family-centred care.
  • Encourage multi-disciplinary collaboration among clinicians, researchers, and family partners
  • Create a resource hub with practical tools and resources for embedding family-centred care in daily practice
  • Offer mentorship and peer support for teams adopting new family-centred care practices or models
  • Come together to promote continuous learning and share research updates and evaluation findings.

How will we know the community of practice is successful?

  • Number of active members and participating hospitals.
  • Attendance at webinars.
  • Volume and quality of shared resources.
  • Member feedback on usefulness and impact.
