Biography

Dr. Jelena Komanchuk is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Calgary and a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the School of Nursing at the University of British Columbia in the Okanagan. Dr. Komanchuk's doctoral research (supervised by Dr. Nicole Letourneau and Dr. Judy L. Cameron) focused on caregiver-child relationships, children's health and development, adverse childhood experiences, and leveraging technology to support parenting resource accessibility. In November of 2023, she joined Dr. Elizabeth Keys' SLUMBER lab to conduct mixed-methods research to explore the sleep health of children and their caregivers in foster and kinship care, as well as the connection between sleep and caregiver-child relationships. She is passionate about children's health in foster and kinship care and aims to develop a research program dedicated to investigating innovative strategies to support the health of foster and kinship families.
