UCalgary Law establishes new international internship funding for students

The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce the new Bill Winters MEGlobal Memorial Internship, providing new learning opportunities for law students.

On June 28, the Faculty of Law, in partnership with Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer LLP and MEGlobal, launched the Bill Winters MEGlobal Memorial Internship. Over the next ten years, this gift will allow the law school to support our students’ continued learning through real-world experience in the law school’s international internship program.

Bill Winters was a lawyer with Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer LLP for more than 20 years, and practiced in the Commercial Transactions area.

"We're absolutely thrilled to partner with our friends at Burnet Duckworth and Palmer and ME Global to establish the Bill Winters MEGlobal Memorial Internship," said UCalgary law dean Ian Holloway. "Our ambition the internship is three-fold: we want to provide financial assistance to our students, but we want to do it in a way that will broaden their professional horizons. And at the same time, we want to create a living memorial to that wonderful exemplar of the very best of our profession, Bill Winters."

“In addition to being known for his brilliant mind, Bill exhibited a tremendous warmth and exuberance in personality, and a vast curiosity for life and people,” says Steve Cohen, a partner at the firm. “We are so pleased to support the Faculty of Law and its students, and to continue Bill’s legacy through this internship.”
